Kivu Travel Supports the canine unit in Garamba National Park

Active since 2019, the canine unit in Garamba National Park is an incredible asset to the Park’s Law Enforcement teams. The six dogs (German shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and a German short-haired pointer) and their handlers work seamlessly together to track and detect. They are regularly deployed to vehicle checkpoints on roads in the protected area to sniff out illegal wildlife products as well as arms and ammunition. They are also trained to deploy by helicopter in the Park whenever necessary to track poachers.
